We do not have a restaurant, and when guests ask where to go, this is what we say. Belmont 16s — properly the Belmont 16ft Sailing Club — sits right on the lake at The Parade, and it has spent a long time being the social centre of this end of Lake Macquarie.

There are seven separate eateries and bars inside, which covers everything from a counter meal to something more considered. It is open 365 days a year, and there is live music every Saturday.

Why it matters if you are staying with us

It is a three-minute drive or a walk that guests regularly make on foot and mention in their reviews unprompted. If you have arrived late, have not shopped, and do not want to cook in the kitchenette, this solves your evening.

The sailing

The club is a working sailing club, not a themed one. Belmont Bay hosts serious racing, and in early January the Australian Skiff Championships bring up to 70 sixteen-foot crews and another 30 thirteen-foot crews onto the water — hundreds of sailors, officials and supporters, within walking distance of this motel. If you are coming for that, book early; it is the busiest week of our year.

Practical

Visitors are generally welcome to sign in. Check current entry conditions and opening hours with the club directly before you plan a big night around it.

Official information: 16s.com.au. Opening hours and conditions change — check with them before you build a day around it.
